This past weekend we traveled to the Grand Caymans with some other Swim Atlanta Masters swimmers for a one mile ocean race. This race had 900 people in it, one of the largest and most popular races in the world. It started at the Ritz and you swam parallel to the shore so sighting was easy. It did not start until 2:30 in the afternoon and it was 85 degrees out and 85 in the water. We started in the deep water and I went way out to the edge to avoid the crowds. One we got started, it was not too crowded as I got out in front with my husband on my heels. Once we settled in, he went around me and ended up 15 seconds ahead at the finish. A one mile swim is equivalent to a 5K run race where you go almost all out the whole way. It was a fun race, the finish line had good food and we had the company of our good friends who all swam well!
